In Hungarian there are a couple of verbs expressing motion, specifically going somewhere.

megy, jár, halad

But when do you use them?

MEGY
-using a transportation vehicle:
Busszal megyek. – I’m going by bus.
Kocsival megyünk. – We’re going by car.
-going to a place (country, city…):
Londonba mennek. – They’re going to London.
Afrikába mész? – Are you going to Africa?
A városba megy. – He’s going downtown.
-going somehow:
Gyalog megyek. – I’m going on foot.
-it is used if shoes fit or don’t fit your legs:
Ez a cipő rámegy a lábamra. – This shoe fits my leg.
-something is on tv, in cinema, theatre:
Mi megy a tévében? – What is on tv?
Hamlet megy a színházban. – They’re playing Hamlet in the theatre.
-someone is fine/ill or is well off/doing badly:
Ügyvéd, jól megy neki. – He’s a lawyer. He’s well off.
Hogy megy a sorod? – How are you getting on?
-choosing a profession:
Orvosnak megy. – He becomes a doctor.

JÁR
-transportation vehicle:
Ma nem járnak a buszok. – Today there is no bus service.
-going somewhere regularly:
Külföldre járok. – I often go abroad.
Iskolába járok. – I’m going to school.
Hol jártál? – Where have you been?
-devices, machines work or don’t work:
A lift nem jár. – The elevator is out of order.
Az óra jár. – The clock is working.
-having a subscription:
Hozzám ez az újság jár. – I take (in) this newspaper.
-dating someone, going out with someone:
Jársz vele? – Are you dating him/her?
Már nem járunk. – We’re not dating anymore.

HALAD
-transporation vehicle going at a certain pace:
Az autók lassan haladnak. – The cars are proceeding slowly.
-making a progress:
Hogy haladsz? – How are you coming on (with your work)?
Jól haladok. – I’m coming on well.
-time:
Az idő halad. – Time passes.
Az idő gyorsan halad. – Time passes fast.
