HOW LONG? SINCE WHEN?
This question word goes like this: the interrogative word ’Mi?’ takes the adverb of time óta, that is:
MIÓTA?
The answer is not evident in all cases: it is formed with óta, but also with the suffixes -e, -ja equal to for, since. And as usual, the definite pronouns az, ez can be paired with óta.
Mióta vagy itt? – How long have you been here?
Két hete. – For two weeks.
Három napja. – For three days.
Egy órája. – For an hour.
Egy éve. – For a year.
Régóta. – For a long time.
Jó ideje. – For a while.
Azóta, hogy elmondta…

Amióta idejött, egész nap alszik.

Attention! When you ask ’From when to when?’, Hungarian can say Mettől meddig?

Régóta angolul nem for a long time, de from of old, vagy since long ago. For a long time magyarul: hosszabb, hosszú időre.
Jó ideje angolul nem for a while, de inkább for a long time, amit egy sor fölé írta.
Mettől meddig maradsz Pécsen? = From when to when will you stay in Pécs? –> úgy ahogy kicsit feljebb írta: When you ask ’From when to when?’, Hungarian can say Mettől meddig?
Helyesen: Hungarian amíg ALWAYS precedes the negative nem…
Jobban: „I won’t tell you the bedtime story unless you go to bed.“ , de ha az until határozószó felől tárgyalunk, akkor olyasmi példa úgyis helytelen. Azonkívül, tell the tale olyan pejoratív kifejezés. Jelent: valakit bolondítani. Inkább ilyen példát javasolok: A feltaláló ismételi a kísérleteket amíg a találmánya működőképessé válik. – An inventor repeates experiments until his invention becomes functioning.

Itt nem törölte ki azt a by. Elég csak ahogy eredetileg írtam: „…precedes the…“ Nem muszáj magyaráznom, miért by itt nem való, mivel kiválóan ért angolhoz.
