All right. So what you see below (tmthtgfinal) is a revised version of my book from today on. I’ve made a few mistakes in the first book and I’ve found several way to improve things. Mainly grouping and arranging grammatical topics in a more reasonable way. So there is some improvement on verbs and nouns. And you can find summary tables at the very end of the book. I hope it helps you learn (more about) Hungarian since that’s my goal with my writing. The size of the pdf. book is 10 Mb.

Hello there ! Thanks a lot for your Hungarian grammar. I am currently learning Hungarian (A2 —> B1), and I was wondering if it is possible for me to let print your book at my university, only for my personal use. I simply prefer to work with books or paper… Wanted to have your opinion about it (provided my university allows me to print it…). Elõre is köszönöm, and thanks a lot about all these explanation

I’ve been studying Hungarian independently for about 2 years now and I just today stumbled across this blog and your grammar book. It’s one of the best online resources I’ve found so far and it definitely rivals the Colloquial Hungarian textbook I have (don’t get me wrong, I love that book but I think I would rather have yours in print!). Your guide looks very professional and the content is well put together; I also like how you have the practice exercises right after the learning material. I find it much more user-friendly then my textbook and I wanted to ask if I could also have permission to print a copy of your ebooks (the grammar book, the summary for Hungarian verbs, and the thematic dictionary) just for my own personal use and if my local print shop (Digicopy La Crosse) will allow it. I’m hoping to visit Hungary in about a year, and those would be great resources that I would love to have in print form 😀

És köszönöm szépen 🙂 I will take it to the print shop, and see if they can print a small version that I can keep in my backpack (maybe something like 4 PDF pages on one side of paper, to save trees). I’ll try one page like that on my home printer first, just to make sure it will still be readable (I think it will be, though :D).
Miért tanulok magyarul? Well, I have a long answer for that 🙂 I originally started when I saw a journal on an art website; one of the members (who is Hungarian) writes fiction stories and she wanted help translating her stories into English. She never really got any help for it. It sounded interesting and so I thought: “Well, maybe I can help. How hard could it be?” (I had no idea Hungarian was one of the hardest languages; I just remembered that studying Spanish in high school was not too bad). So I started by pasting her stories into Google Translate, and then we would both work on fixing the English. It was a lot of fun, and I thought that maybe if I studied a little Hungarian too, then perhaps I would not have to rely on Google Translate so much (I learned not to trust Google Translate fairly quickly, although some of the translations are funny enough to make me laugh and I do enjoy reading those).
So, 2 years later, here I am now 🙂 I find study stuff all over the web (I don’t always like being on the computer very long, but it’s hard to find good study materials in print and I do enjoy learning it). People probably think I’m crazy, learning Hungarian for fun 😉
I’m also planning a trip to Hungary next year to visit the person who writes the stories (we became friends after that), so part of the reason I asked about your ebook was so I would have something I could study from when I’m not on the computer, and so that I could take it with me when I travel 🙂

I’m a begginer in Hungarian and I know I have a long way to go (luckily I was mentally prepared for that). The grammar book makes me feel safe 🙂 it’s really useful when I dont get what we have on my Hungarian course at university (that means after every class)

I’m enjoying 🙂 reading your grammar book. I like that you cover some things that other books leave out. Thanks for all the work you’ve put in.
But I have found a few mistakes (I think).
On page 60. Is ‘kiék’ really a thing? If so it’s an irregular form. The regular form would be ‘kiéi’. Unless you interpret ‘-ék’ as the suffix used to talk about ‘someone’s people’, as in ‘Kovácsék’, ‘the Kovács family’. Either way I think the ‘kinek’ form is much more common.
But what’s definitely wrong (I think) is ‘Kiknek a tollai ezek?’ The ‘kik’ part doesn’t refer to multiple pens, but to multiple possessors. You’d ask that question if you expect the answer to be more than on person: ‘Péteréi és Évaéi’, or ‘Kovácsékéi’, or ‘fiaiéi’.
On page 72. ‘As adverbs’ should be ‘When used predicatively’, (contrasting with attributively).

Okay. Here’s the thing:
The correct question is ‘Ezek kinek a tollai? – Whose pens are these?’. The grammatically correct question word would be indeed Kiéi, but Kinek a is much better. I probably wrote that because I wanted to give too many details on the plural forms, and so I messed it up.
Page 72. Yes, predicatively. 🙂
Just ask ‘Ezek kinek a tollai?’ and the answer can be: az enyémek, a tieid…Péteréi…Péteré és Annáé, etc.

It’s still on the site. I just downloaded it. It works as it should.
Just click on it, then it opens the book and save it within the pdf viewer or right click and choose save URL as… If none of these work, there is something with your browser or your pdf viewer might need an update.

Hello László, Thank you for this great book. I’ve been working with online resources (Memrise and Duolingo), as well as meeting with a tutor once a week, but I still need a LOT of repetitive drilling of sentences, using different grammatical concepts and new vocabulary. This is hard to find, but your book does this! I’m very happy.
I would like to print out small sections of the book so I can work on them one at a time. However, when I tried to extract the pages I wanted, I was required to enter a password, which of course I don’t know. Are you preventing people from extracting pages from the book, or is there some way for me to be able to do that? Thank you!

I also tried printing selected pages to another PDF file, and it wouldn’t allow that, either.

Hi there,
I did put a password on the book so that nobody can change the content of it, but printing is allowed. To make sure, I just downloaded it and I was able to print any page I wanted to. I don’t know what might be the problem. Is it possible that your computer is blocking something?
